Seeking P/T Nanny or Nanny Share with Another Family in SE/Mt Tabor

Hello! We're looking for a wonderful, loving nanny for our 6-month old son. We are also open to a nanny share with another family who lives nearby (within easy walking distance).  We live in Mt. Tabor near 50th/Hawthorne. We're looking for someone 2 days a week, ~ 8 hours a day (~ 9-5), ideally Mon/Weds or Tues/Thurs but we may have some flexibility on the days (other than Fridays, when we do not need care). Care would be in our home.

We're looking for someone who is warm, bright, reliable, thoughtful, who has a gentle, tender manner, and is experienced with young babies. Ideally, we'd love someone who is also knowledgeable about the developmental stages/needs of young babies. We believe in fresh air every day, walks, lots of books!, cuddling and interactive play. We have two dogs, so our nanny will need to enjoy and be comfortable with dogs as well. We'd like the nanny to help with light housework/meal prep as time permits (our son's needs always coming first).

At some point, now or later, we'd love to find another nearby family *within easy walking distance of our house* for a nanny share. We want to simplify our lives, and minimize car trips, hence the "walkable" criteria.  Care could be split between our homes (probably alternating weeks). Ideally both families would have a baby similar in age (6 mos).  We have a laid  back parenting style, but work hard to create a loving, healthy and stimulating environment  for our son. We seek a family with similar values.

Please contact us at if you'd like to know more, thanks for your interest!  Amy and Brent

Nanny & Nanny Share Opportunity in NW PDX (Cedar Mill)

March 21, 2015

We are looking for a both a nanny and another family interested in a nanny share opportunity in our Cedar Mill home. We have a 9-month old son, who would like a caring nanny and maybe a friend to share his days with.

For a nanny: This is a full time position, 35-45 hours per week (~8a-5p), M-F, with every other Wednesday off. We are looking for a caregiver who is reliable, mature and knowledgeable on the sleep/developmental needs of kiddos under 1 years old. We will expect a consistent schedule for our son each day, and for him to be taken outside for a walk or to play every day, rain or shine.  Most days with him are spent playing, practicing walking, going outside, and reading many, many books. As our son gets older and it becomes more appropriate, we would support getting him and the nanny involved in activities during the day. We would also like for a nanny to help us with some household duties during nap times, as appropriate. As this post indicates, we hope to find a nanny share with one additional child at some point in the future.

For a potential family: We would like to host this nanny share, and are open to sharing either part time or full time. We think another child aged 3 months-21 months would be a good fit for our son. We have a lower level that is childproofed, secure and filled with age-appropriate toys. Our son is showing much interest in children his age, and would like this nanny share to be an opportunity for more socializing and learning from peers. My husband and I have a laid back parenting style, but work hard to create a loving, healthy and stimulating environment for our son. We would probably be a good fit for another family with similar values.

Please contact me at if you'd like to know more, thanks for your interest!

Reliable and Responsible Nanny Available

I am patient, reliable and responsible. Activities I like to do with kids include reading, arts and crafts, playing outside (even if it means getting dirty,) going to the pool, bike rides, walks around the neighborhood, trips to OMSI, zoo, forestry center, story time etc.

I am happy to assist with meal prep, children's laundry, sleep training, making baby food, walking the dog etc.

I am college educated, and have several great references who are happy to talk with you. I am a generally happy person who is a good communicator. I am seeking a family who is happy, communicates well, and is looking for a long term (1+ yr) commitment.

I am seeking a family who needs care on Tue, Thur and/or Fridays. I am open to non-traditional schedules, so if you work evenings, or extra long days, I am happy to discuss it. I live in inner NE and am hoping to find a family nearby or easy to get to by bus and/or bike.

FT Loving, Patient, Reliable Nanny Available 3/23

Hello Portland Families!

My name is Alaina and I am 27 year old, Portland native, who's hoping to find a full time nanny position. I am available M-F and hoping to work at least 30 hours per week, 35 would be a plus but not required. I am available to start as early as March 23rd. My most current job was working at a Pre-school/Daycare called West Hills Learning Center, in Multnomah Village. I started out as the Assistant Teacher in the Pre-K classroom, when I decided to start looking for a nanny job I moved to part time as a floater, which had me working in all of the classrooms 8 months- 5 years old. West Hills was a great place to work, and I learned so much there, with all of the different ages, to teaching styles, and large number of children in each class, I really soaked up as much knowledge as I could to help me in my future child care positions. With that said, I have realized I thrive more in a smaller group setting. I like the intimacy and attention you are able to give each child. I like growing close with the families, and having the time to be able to give updates to the parents about how the day went, and what new fun things we did during the day.

In the past I have worked for the Beaverton School District as a Substitute Teacher's Assistant, I worked in mostly special ed classrooms, and children with behavioral issues, ranging for K-12, I have worked in after school art programs, and I have been a Nanny to multiple families, which I have grown to have great relationships with. Kids age ranging from 3 months-8 years old. Of course I have babysat throughout every job I have had starting at a very early age. With all my past experience I have always gone back to wanting to be a Nanny, I believe it truly is my passion to care for children, and there is no greater feeling then leaving a days work actually feeling like you have made a difference in someones life.

A little about me, and my teaching style. Like I said before, I have grown up in the Portland metro area my whole life, I love Oregon and all if has to offer. Like most Oregonians, I love the lifestyle we are able to have by living here, beautiful day hikes, weekend trips to the Oregon Coast and the Mountain, trying a new awesome restaurant each weekend, eating locally and as healthy as possible. Its very important for me to be active, and healthy, and that is definitely incorporated in when I am watching children. I like to have the kids help me cook, get them involved and show them what its like to eat from the garden, daily walks, and exploring all nature has to offer. Rain or shine, I need to go outside everyday! I very much believe a child's imagination is the most important thing to exercise and discover. Letting the child know they are loved and cared for on a daily basis, making sure they are comfortable and knowing you are there for them with all of their questions and concerns, helping them when they need help, but also letting them try new things on their own, and learning together is the most important thing I can provide as a Nanny and caregiver.

As a Nanny, I would make sure each day we would go outside, hopefully incorporate arts and crafts on a daily basis (because I love art projects as much as the kids do!) read books, prepare healthy snacks, listen and dance to music, explore new parks, and honestly just try to learn and play as much as we can, and have a great time doing it!

I have a 2002 Subaru Outback, which is a very safe and reliable car. I have had my license since I was 16, with an amazing driving record. I recently renewed my First Aid/CPR training in January, and am enrolled in the Criminal Background Check. Thank I am comfortable with pets, and don't mind walking the dog. I am comfortable with meal prep, light house keeping, and running errands. I don't smoke.

Even though I myself am not a mother yet, I can imagine trying to find the right Nanny for your family to be a very hard process. I don't blame the family for wanting to maybe have a lengthy hiring process, or wanting to do a trial run to see if you are a right fit before hiring, and to me that makes so much sense. You can't be too sure when you know this person is going to be watching your children. So with that said, I am available for contact through e-mail or phone. If you're interested I can send my Resume which gives in greater detail my childcare experience, we can chat on the phone before meeting to see if we would be a good fit for each other!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, I am a very caring, reliable, patient, and open minded person, I look at being a Nanny as a career, and not just a job to have until I find something better. I am very excited to find the next family to work with. Thanks again, and I hope to hear from you!

Sincerely, Photo

Full Time Care Available for an Infant/Young Toddler near SE Woodstock

March 14, 2015

Are you looking for high-quality, affordable, personalized childcare in SE Portland?

Would your child thrive in a small, family-like environment rather than a crowded center?

Do you like the idea of a nanny share, but with a bit more structure and dependability (and not in your house)?

I have been providing child care for a small group of babies and toddlers in my home since November 2012, shortly after the birth of my oldest son.  Before this, I worked closely with kids of all ages for over 12 years as an environmental educator, elementary school teacher and as a nanny.  I love spending time with children!

Our group is very much like a little family; with just a few children here at one time, I am able to provide lots of individualized attention.  My oldest son is now in preschool and I will be caring for my youngest son who is 5 months old, an 8 month old boy, and a 15 month old girl.  I currently have availability for one more child to join our group full-time between the hours of 8:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday. Ideally, I would love to find a family who is looking for at least 36 hours per week of care for their child whose birthday falls between October 2013 and October 2014.  My full-time rate is $7.50 per hour.

My home is located near SE Woodstock and 60th.  Inside, we enjoy lots of free play and exploration - there are plenty of books and toys, but no TV!  We like to spend lots of time outside as well - we explore nearby parks, investigate the vegetable garden, make messes on the deck, and play in the fully fenced yard.

As a child care provider (and a parent) I value maintaining a flexible routine to our days - I find that young children benefit from knowing the general flow of the day and what is coming next.  I believe that infants and toddlers thrive with consistent and adequate rest, so age-appropriate naps are prioritized.  I even have separate sleeping areas for each child!  I am open to supporting a variety of parenting styles and values and I have lots of experience with cloth diapering, bottle feeding, baby wearing, special diets, baby-led weaning, baby sign language, and potty learning.  I am trained in first aid and CPR and have a food handler's license.  While I don't adhere to a single parenting or educational methodology, I am familiar with and borrow ideas from the RIE, Attachment Parenting, Waldorf and Montessori philosophies.

If it sounds like my care might be a good fit for your family, please contact me with questions or for more information!

Simple Traditions Child Care

Experienced Nanny with Master's Degree Available April 6th

Hi Portland mamas!

My name is Laurel and I’m a 29-year-old nanny who will be available for full-time care (35+ hours) beginning April 6th. I'm currently working in a temporary nanny share with two 18-month-olds. Prior to this I was working as a preschool teacher when I realized that I really love working with smaller groups of children because of the focused, individualized attention I’m able to provide for each child. I've had experience as both a babysitter and nanny and have worked with dozens of families over the past 16 years. I nannied most consistently during college and graduate school and now, of course, as part of this nanny share, with more occasional babysitting scattered in between. I have worked with children of all ages (infancy through adolescence).

I studied Family Studies and Human Development as an undergrad and Social Work (with a concentration in Children and Families) as a graduate student. I've taken many child development courses and, most recently, a class on curriculum and environments for infants and toddlers.

I strongly believe that children learn through relationships, play and the ability to interact with a variety of materials and environments. I have experience implementing emergent curriculum and I love the process of observing children and offering experiences and materials based on their interests.

I am also passionate about supporting children’s social-emotional development—it is such important work and provides children with a strong foundation for meeting interpersonal experiences throughout their lives with a sense of self-reflection, confidence and empathy. Of course, social-emotional support looks different at different ages but it can take the form of: naming and validating a child’s feelings, offering just enough help so they can master a challenge without becoming too frustrated, and maintaining consistent routines, to name just a few.

As a fellow curious person from a young age, I appreciate the questions young children ask and enjoy the process of supporting them to go deeper and explore their sense of wonder—it’s what life is all about! I am also excited about sharing my passion for the wild, outdoor spaces on our planet and observing the ways in which children are intrinsically drawn to and interact with the natural world.

I'm CPR/First Aid certified and enrolled in the Oregon Central Background Registry. I have a driver's license, a clean driving record and a safe, early 90s Volvo. I have plentiful, glowing references, which I would love to share with you if you’re interested.

In my free time I enjoy cooking (especially soup!), asking questions, practicing yoga, collecting quotations, traveling, hiking, taking photos and watching adventure films.

I'm reliable, experienced and I feel confident that I can provide respectful, responsive care for your child(ren). Above all, I truly delight in the presence of children—their smiles, their laughs, and the look of focused attention as they observe something that fascinates them or practice mastering a new skill.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to hearing from you!

Trustworthy, Creative-minded, Naturalist Nanny available March 23rd in SE!

March 06, 2015

Hey there Urban Mamas!

Are you looking for a mature, down to earth, responsible, punctual, well rounded and highly experienced childcare provider? Look no further! :)
My name is Katy and I am a 28 year old, college educated, creative and FUN nanny living in the Mt. Scott/Arleta neighborhood of SE. One of the mothers I currently work for is reducing her work schedule to spend more time with her  awesome kiddos, so I am searching for another lovely family to work for. I am available as early as March 23rd. I am open to waiting until as late as April 1st for the right fit.
I have great references! All will contest to my honest, strong work ethic, excellent childcare skills and easygoing, warm personality. I have over 10 years of childcare, teaching, and tutoring experience.  3+ years of gymnastics and theater teaching experience has made movement and creativity the crux of the childcare I provide! I speak Spanish very proficiently and would be more than happy to incorporate the Spanish language into my care, as well. Children in my charge with enjoy nature walks, creative outdoor play, games and songs. In my spare time, I am studying herbalism. I intern 4 hours a week at the Hawthorne Herb Shoppe. I love sharing my love for plants with children. We always stop and smell the roses!
I have the most experience caring for and teaching toddlers. I would prefer to work with one or two toddlers, but am open to any age if it's the right fit :) I love caring for children of all ages. A typical day with me and a toddler would look like Story time at the library, followed by adventures at the playground, singing improvised songs about plants and animals, movement based and creative games, and consistent nap schedule. I am also experienced with potty training toddlers and am very attentive, always positive and encouraging. I am very invested in supporting and fostering children's natural creativity, curiosity and brilliance!
I am very happy to work for all varieties of families and as a queer person, I welcome and celebrate LGBTQ families. I would love to work for a family that celebrates diversity, culture and natural healthy living.
I would prefer to work for a family relatively close to my neighborhood, as I love to ride my bike to work! I have a drivers license, vehicle, and squeaky clean driving record.  I'd  prefer to drive my employer's vehicle if driving is part of my work responsibilities.  I'd be more than happy to hitch a trailer on my bicycle! I'm an excellent, highly experienced and safe city cyclist. That is more my style of transportation :)
I am ideally looking to work 3-4 full weekdays/week. I work on a sliding scale depending on the number of children and responsibilities of the position.  Feel free to contact me about rates and other details. I hope to get the opportunity to meet you and your family soon! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my posting :)

Opening for 1 infant RIE/ Attachment caregiving In Home Daycare

Caterpillar Care In Home Daycare is a certified daycare in NE Portland on Skidmore near Williams.
I offer patient and consistent care in a secure home environment. I am inspired by the RIE philosophies of Janet Lansbury and Magda Gerber combined with the attachment style caregiving of Dr. Sears. I use respectful communication and positive discipline with the children, maintaining clear, consistent, and loving boundaries. I have built my business around relationships with many families who see that working with small children is truly my calling.

I believe in the necessity of healthy nutrition, creative expression, and movement. Our days are filled with guitar time, craft time, book time, and outside time. I provide mostly organic whole foods to the children because I understand that a strong nutritional foundation is important for healthy growth and brain development. I enjoy thinking of creative sensory activities and other open-ended crafts. Our outdoor space has areas for gross motor development and we also enjoy walking to local parks for some free-range fun.

I have availability for an infant Monday through Thursday 9 am- 5 pm starting April 1. I am looking for a family who needs 3 or 4 full days of care. After July 1st, I am hoping this family would be interested in continuing to have me care for their child in a nanny-share with one other family who lives in the Hollywood district.

Here is my childcare blog:

Little Imprints Preschool in North Portland

Now enrolling for the 2015-2016 school year.

Located near the Adidas Village in North Portland (close to the intersection of N Greeley and N Killingsworth), Little Imprints is a licensed, in-home preschool. We offer care Monday through Friday, from 8:30 until 2:30. Half days are available from 8:30 until 12:30. Care is available for preschool aged children, between 3 and 5 years old. We follow the Portland Public School schedule for all major holiday and seasonal closings. Our summer care program will run from July 6th until August 14th.

Our daily routine involves a multitude of authentic, open ended materials, engaging art, nature, and music activities, and healthy organic snacks. We believe that less is more in the preschool environment, and the materials and objects within the school are tailored to expand upon the interests of each and every child. We have a large, fenced in backyard, and frequently explore the neighborhoods and parks surrounding the school. Indoor and outdoor play are equally important, and we go outside each day rain or shine.

At Little Imprints, we believe in instilling a love of learning, play, and exploration to the children in our care. Our school is designed with the intent of teaching children to become confident and effective communicators. We achieve this aim by having a maximum of 6 children in our care each day, while providing a safe, comfortable environment for the children to practice all the important life skills they will need to prosper.

Over The Rainbow Family Learning Center

February 16, 2015

Hello everyone! I am working on opening a preschool and drop-in play center for children with unique learning needs. ALL children will be welcome, but the program may be of particular interest to parents of children with autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, behavioral challenges, sensory processing issues, or just high levels of energy! I am hoping to start a list of people who would be interested in updates and who might be interested in any of our programs. Please visit to learn more, and fill out the WANT MORE INFO form.

A little  about what I am planning:

- A flexible program that allows you to choose which, and how many, days you child will attend.
- A preschool that allows your child to learn in his own style, at his own pace.
- A program where staff members understand that many children have different needs for movement and sensory input.
- A relaxed, fun environment where your child can feel welcome and accepted.
- A program where, as a parent, your knowledge about your child and the things that you want for him or her are important and respected.

- A full time day care center
- A therapy center

We will also be offering "Tot School" for children under 3 and their parents, drop-in play hours for children of all ages and their parents or caregivers, monthly respite care events, family events, and more!

I am hoping to make this place a home away from home for parents and kids, so I would be interested in hearing your opinions, thoughts, questions, etc. I don't yet have a location, either, so I am open to suggestions for that as well. Thanks for your help!
