Sweet River Bamboo Preschool & Nursery is Enrolling!

July 20, 2017

IMG_1702

Sweet River Bamboo Preschool & Nursery is a LifeWays and Waldorf inspired program nurturing the spirit of childhood. Located in NE Portland, we are a predominantly Waldorf program and take inspiration from Montessori and Reggio philosophies to create an environment that is well balanced and suited to the social/emotional development of the young  child.

A year round program, we are a small and mindful group of 2 teachers and 8 children from 18m-kindergarten ready. Enrollment options are for one, two, or three days a week:  Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 8:30a-12:30p. or 8:45a-2:45p.

Held in a loving home surrounded by beauty and toys made of natural materials, a gentle rhythm carries children through open play, song circles, outside adventures (we are right by Oregon Park!) and rest. Painting, arts and crafts and baking are other activities we do together weekly. Influenced greatly by nature's rhythm, acknowledgment of and festive celebrations of the seasons are a big deal at Sweet River Bamboo!

Lead Teacher Sara (Sahra) is a Waldorf inspired teacher with 20 years of childcare experience with children of all ages. Her time with children has taught her how to slow down, find playful moments in every activity, and to stay present, loving and kind. Sara has learned that encouraging creativity and being out in nature daily is imperative for the well being of children (and adults!) She has observed that placing children in mixed age environments that are warm and loving is immensely helpful in aiding their ability to learn, thrive and grow securely and whole heartedly. Sara brings warmth, creativity, intention and love to the children in her care and holds a nourishing container for the preschool group as a whole. Sara's multi cultural and multi lingual background and years of extensive world travel bring a nice flavor to the school. Her decade long exploration of psychology, dance and various forms of mindful movement practices influence the curriculum greatly.

Space is limited as we keep our group small.  Please contact Sara at 503-432-6414 or saralizadeh@hotmail.com with your interest and questions. A complete overview of the program, including tuition rates, will be provided via email at your request.

Seeking part-time caregiver for our 10.5 month old starting Sept 5

My husband is starting the Montessori elementary training course on September 6 and I work remotely for a non-profit. We need someone to take care of our baby daughter for 12-15 hours a week starting the last week of August or first week of September. Kaia will be 10 ½ months by then. She's playful and fun-loving!

We're seeking a nurturing, compassionate, eco/health-conscious caregiver. Ideally, we’d like someone to come to our home in SE PDX (Buckman neighborhood) from 8:30 to 11:30am Mondays through Thursday for a "work cycle." From here you can go on walks, play in the community garden, or stay at home and play, read, sing, dance, do artsy crafts, etc. Hours/days are somewhat flexible, but we'd like to keep it as consistent as possible for Kaia's sake. We’re also open to childcare shares as well, whether here or somewhere else.

Familiarity with Montessori-inspired approach and/or fluency in a second language a plus.

Please contact me at erin.hannum108@gmail.com or 509 221 9319.

Childcare Openings

Hi all! My name is Charlene Adams and I'm an in home childcare provider in North Portland. I'm located between Morgan St. and Buffalo St. I've been doing childcare out of my home for about 8 years now, but before this, I was a childcare teacher at Legacy Emanuel's Childcare center. I worked there for a little over 21 years, but after they closed down due to lack of funding, I was forced to find another job. Inhome childcare has been a perfect fit! I'm a licensed childcare provider and I have my food handler's card, my recognizing child abuse certification, CPR, first aid, and an approved background check. In my care, we have a set schedule which consists of sign language lessons, learning their ABC's and numbers, story time, and a daily walk (if the weather is nice). Meals are provided. My hours are 7:30 am - 5:30 pm Monday -Friday. Currently, I have 3 full time children (an 8 month old, a 2 year old, and a 3 year old). I like to keep my group small by not going over 6 kids. I have 3 openings for ages 15 months and up. If you'd like more information, you can shoot me an email at adamscharlene1965@yahoo.com OR you can give me a call at (503) 891-6838. Thanks! I hope to hear from you!

nanny share foster/Powell space available summer $8.50 p/h

June 29, 2017

Hello Mamas (And Papas, as the case may be),

I am writing today on behalf of our sweet little Foster-Powell nanny-share, as things are changing up a bit and we have 1 spot available coming this July! Our dear nanny Solstice lovingly cares for four children (presently 3 at a time) in her clean and creative home. Below are some words from Ms. Sol, but as a mother who's been lucky to have Solstice care for our son since he was 5 months old (he is now 26 months), I would like to share how wonderful Solstice's care is. Her approach is informal/relaxed while also very interactive, educational, and highly individualized. She listens to the needs of each family and works with parents to enhance whatever routine/lessons/needs each child has so there is continuity between home and childcare. She is very flexible (so helpful!) while maintaining the utmost integrity and dependability in schedules. She has created a wonderful space in her home, and her care feels more like a fun auntie's home than a traditional daycare. She speaks predominantly Spanish to the kids presently, but this is flexible as well! Her rates are also very competitive at $8.50/hour.

Presently, we are looking for one child to join for 1-2 days/week. Available days are M, T,  & Friday afternoons. Solstice is also available for date nights and weekends, so she really is such an incredible support on so many levels. Our little family, and all current families, cannot recommend her enough! We hope to meet your little one(s) soon!

Please contact:

Solstice Barba: (415) 377-2711   toujourshadow@gmail.com
If you are interested, Solstice can provide all current family contact info for stellar references.

A few words from Solstice:

I am so happy to be looking forward to meeting new friends as I have just said goodbye to an original team member of my nanny share. I offer a casual nanny share situation in my home and its dynamic is stellar. It both encompasses the advantages of a private nanny for your child while at the same time also reaping the benefits of peer play without the distractions of an overwhelmingly large group. The nanny share context is also very budget-friendly. I have been providing child care for over a decade now and my experiences range from private nanny to large summer camps, from nanny share to au pair, from my mom's daycare helper to home tutor and many more contexts in between. I care for children of all ages and I am available Monday and Tuesday from 8-5 and Fridays after noon.

Currently, I care for 4 children under the age of 4 and no more than 4 children in one day since I work alone. My home has a fenced back yard with patio deck and myself, my partner and 2 kitties are its only residents. I currently provide Spanish immersion to the children whose parents wish me to do so. Child care is my true vocation and my fulfillment comes from making my little friends happy everyday. I have a personal approach of seeing each child as unique but all children grow from smiles so my daily duty is to have fun! I deeply believe having fun is vital to a child's positive growth. I keep fluid daily schedules that include open play, storytime, yoga, school time, choir practice, dance party, creative workshop, outside tumbling, promenades, baking class, and more. I believe this small group dynamic of intimate care with friendship and play from other children allows them to thrive and flourish with each other and with me too! I consider my approach an immersion of Montessori, Waldorf and Reggio Emilia styles. My rate for full time families is 8.50$ an hour per child for two days and $9 an hour for one day. References may be given upon meeting.

A little more about myself...I am from San Francisco! I'm a graduate of UC Berkeley with a degree in liberal arts. I am a devout yoga student and also teach kids yoga at my studio. I am an avid world traveler and yet its strange that my warmest comfort comes from being home :) I welcome any background checks and I get CPR certified annually, and of course, I am a non-smoker. I am fluent in Spanish and conversational French. There is no television in my home and the only entertainment apparatus we use is my record player for dance and music time. I have an excellent education and many other work experiences such as tutoring English as a second language and crisis counseling, but it's the little ones that make me smile each day when I go to work. I put the same high expectations on myself that I expect other families to put on me. Each child is unique and I am attentive to differences when they arise. It is a strength of mine to be creative when confronting a problem. Sometimes children get restless or frustrated with sharing, or have difficulty communicating their desires, or just don't want to eat their veggies! It's important to not execute anger or negative energy to solve these situations. Love, patience, and innovation will help children much faster and more positively then any frown or holler I believe. I actually grew up in a daycare and my mother was the owner. I am eternally grateful to her. Thank you for your time and I look forward to meeting  you and your little one(s)!

Sweet River Bamboo Preschool & Nursery Is Now Enrolling!

June 26, 2017

Green Tulip Peace & Nature School Fall 2017 Open House!!

 ~ Portland's Only Free~Flowing School!

Who We Are:
The Green Tulip Peace and Nature School believes that children need independence and autonomy. We know that preschoolers are capable of making decisions that will impact how they learn and approach education in the future. We are a school that focuses less on academic achievements and more on whole self-development. We understand that nature and the outdoors are essential components to a happy, fulfilling childhood and are the foundation for self-awareness and self-esteem. We have seen first-hand the benefits of our work and have had great success in transforming how our children experience learning. The free flow environment has proven extremely effective in reducing stress and anxiety in children, especially children who fall on the Autism spectrum, struggle with social or general Anxiety, and children with ADHD.

Our indoor/outdoor classrooms are carefully designed to provide a peaceful and safe learning space which allows the children freedom to explore knowing that their needs will be met. By doing so, our environment transforms to one less about classroom management and more about facilitating ideas and fostering creativity. It is a form play therapy that allows the children to learn at their own pace and work through challenges naturally, and over the years we’ve received numerous referrals by occupational therapists who saw the benefits of our work.
Our hope is to build connections, encourage awareness, and model acceptance.

We look forward to many happy years of working together and watching our children grow.

Philosophy & Approach:
Holistic education is based on the premise that each person finds identity, meaning, and purpose in life through connections to the community, to the natural world, and to spiritual values such as compassion and peace. Holistic education aims to call forth from people an intrinsic reverence for life and a passionate love of learning. This is done, not through an academic “curriculum” that condenses the world into instructional packages, but through direct engagement with the environment. Holistic education nurtures a sense of wonder.

What your child will experience at the Green Tulip:
The natural world as their classroom. Our outdoor classroom is set to accommodate most weather so children can be free to move about and learn in the environment the meets their needs. The outdoors is always accessible for learning, exploring, playing, or tending to our plants and animals.

An outdoor classroom full of opportunities to learn including but not limited to an outdoor art station, library, sandbox, fairy garden, chicken coop, a dig pit, garden, climbing structures and more!

A positive happy environment where curiosity is encouraged and nurtured.

We naturally will introduce your child to delicious and nutritious foods. We serve organic, locally grown and sometimes even fruits and vegetables we grew ourselves. We believe that CLEAN preservative-free food is an essential for wellness, and cook from scratch whenever possible.

Life Skills- Cooperation, relationship building, and working through emotions.

 A Sense of  Community

Independent and Free Play

Experienced, Respectful Nanny Available!

Hello! I am an experienced nanny searching for a new position, beginning this month! I am looking for a contract lasting June through sometime in November when I am due with my own little one.  I have worked as a fulltime professional nanny since June 2013, and my partner and I just moved to Portland from Seattle this month.  While I am sad to have left all of my beloved nanny families in Seattle, I am excited to connect with some wonderful Portland families!

My childcare philosophy draws from RIE, Montessori, and attachment/gentle parenting. I've primarily worked with toddlers and infants, and I am continually amazed by their curiosity, compassion, intelligence, and energetic awareness. I believe in treating children with respect, honoring their innate wisdom, and doing my own internal work so that I can be the most compassionate and loving caregiver possible. I m a big believer in natural and unassisted motor development, supporting independent play, teaching consent early, giving children the space to figure things out on their own (you won t see me demonstrating how to use a toy!), involving even young children in daily tasks around the house such as cooking and cleaning, and holding supportive emotional containers for big toddler emotions. I am familiar with Montessori philosophies, Waldorf pedagogy, RIE tenants, baby led weaning, babywearing, cloth diapering, elimination communication, gentle sleep training, co-sleeping, extended breastfeeding, and alternative pediatric medicine. I also work as a birth and postpartum doula, although I am not taking birth clients at this time.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Warmly,

Esmé

P.S. I would like to stay in Portland proper during this time!

Seeking PT Nanny or nanny-share for 18 month old, SE PDX, starting in July

June 20, 2017

Looking for a part time nanny or preferably nanny share situation in SE Portland. We live in South Tabor at 77th Ave and Clinton. We could host a share at our house which has a big fenced yard and lots of space and light, BUT since i will be working from home, doing it at the other home would be easier. Ideally we'd like child care for 3 days a week from 8:30ish -5ish, tuesdau, wed, thurs. Days of the week are flexible but would ideally be consistent.

Our son Raymond is 18 months old and a similarly aged child would be ideal for playing/learning. He is a typical smiley little tyke. Loves having books read to him and roving around the yard and the park. We avoid screen time for him. He has no allergies and eats like a champ. We would consider a private nanny if we can't find a share but Ray would like being around another kid. He naps from about 12:30-3 right now and naps best in a quiet, dark space, so that would have to be worked out with the other kid/s.

If this sounds like a match for anyone, please email me and we can exchange phone numbers. Thank you!

Summer and Fall Openings at ChildRoots

James

Need summer coverage? ChildRoots NW has openings!

At ChildRoots, we believe that children are capable and strong. They deserve beautiful spaces, high-quality materials, and curriculum that is built upon their interests. They deserve to be listened to and respected — their ideas are powerful. They deserve organic, whole foods; and spaces to run, jump, skip, and yell. They deserve a community that nurtures social and emotional intelligence and introduces letters and numbers. They deserve teachers that enliven their natural curiosity and foster a lifelong love of learning. We’re inspired by busy brains, running feet, and muddy puddles to stomp in. We ask questions, and respect each child’s innate curiosity. We look closer.

Our preschool program is influenced by the schools of Reggio Emilia, Italy. We believe that children are powerful, independent, and capable; and our program is designed to nurture these traits to build empowered, confident thinkers, dreamers, and tinkerers.

  • We’re committed to building community. Multiple school-wide and class events throughout the year bring us together for celebration, conversation, and shared experiences.
  • Our daily summer camp program offers children the chance to explore a variety of topics in small groups. See a sample atelier term schedule below.
  • On-site art studio offers each child the chance to experiment with a variety of different media, including sculpture, collage, printmaking, and textiles.

Here are just a few of our daily SUMMER CAMP choices:

  • Tie Dye, Volcano Making, Terrariums, Astronomy, Mural Painting, Wilderness Survival, Sun Prints, and Fairy Houses

ChildRoots has three locations in the heart of Portland, and we currently have just a few openings for ages 2 - 6 at our Northwest location. Interested in learning more? Check out our website, give our enrollment office a call at (503) 235-1151, or shoot us an email. We can't wait to get in touch.

Family with newborn looking for another family interested in shared childcare or nanny share situation.

June 16, 2017

Hello! My husband and I are looking for another family in North Portland who are interested in shared childcare or a nanny share situation beginning end of August or September. We have a newborn son named Theo and he will need childcare when I return to work M/T/F. So far he's been a super chill baby and we are in love. I am an Occupational Therapist and my husband is a graphic designer and cartoonist. The ideal family would have one or maybe two kiddos that I could watch on my days off, W/TH and you could watch Theo on M/T/F or we could do a Nanny share those days. I have extensive childcare experience and am CPR certified.

Please call or email if interested: 503-333-7029 jessicagbarton@gmail.com

in home flexible childcare

June 13, 2017

Portland-nanny-logo-2

Hi UrbanMamas!

I started an on-call nanny agency last year called Portland Nanny. We specialize in emergency, back-up and intermittent childcare needs. I started this company because I am a stay at home mom who needed care irregularly and had trouble finding QUALITY care exactly when I needed it. So, I started Portland Nanny.

Child home sick from school? Regular childcare fell through? Need a date night sitter? That is where we can help! We do it all. I essentially have 3-5 nannies on call at all times.

ALL of our nannies are EXCEPTIONAL. I would trust them all with my children, and do! They are thoroughly background checked, infant and child CPR trained, have years of experience in childcare (with references to back up that they were exceptional!), and are seriously just awesome.

Let us help you when life happens! Everyone deserves quality childcare, no matter how last minute or how infrequently you need it!

Families use us from everything from needing a date night sitter to 40 hours a week care!

Thank you!

Hi all! My name is Charlene Adams and I'm an in home childcare provider in North Portland. I'm located between Morgan St. and Buffalo St. I've been doing childcare out of my home for about 8 years now, but before this, I was a childcare teacher at Legacy Emanuel's Childcare center. Currently, I have 5 full time children (ages 4 months, 7 months, 2 years, a 2 and a half year old, and a 3 year old). I like to keep my group small by not going over 6 kids. I have 3 openings for ages 2 and up. If you'd like more information, you can shoot me an email at adamscharlene1965@yahoo.com OR you can give me a call at (503) 891-6838. Thanks! I hope to hear from you!

ALSO, I’ll be having openings for ages 2 and up over the summer months(June-September).

SW Part-Time Nanny Needed ASAP Potential for Full-Time Nanny Share in August

Hello!

We are looking for immediate part-time care for our son. Our boy is incredibly active, and just a regular 2.5 year old sweet heart. We need someone who is willing to play with him and nurture his creative and learning abilitiesys M-F from 8-12 or 1. He has no allergies or restrictions and generally is an easy going fella. Portland Preschool of The Arts Now Enrolling for Summer and Fall! SE on Belmont

May 25, 2017

IMG_3569

The Portland Preschool of the Arts is a child-centered play-based preschool that creates a disposition for learning through curiosity, creativity, concentration, openness, and creation. This preschool aligns with the Reggio Emilia approach to learning which values the child as strong, capable, and inquisitive; rich with wonder and knowledge. We believe that every child brings with them curiosity and potential and this innate curiosity drives their interest to understand their world and their place within it.Through creativity and play children learn to act as their own agents and make their own choices, they are allowed to explore, identify, take risks, construct, discover, and shape the world around them. We follow an interest-driven approach to learning, allowing the children's natural drive to understand the world around them to determine the direction of instruction. We provide the materials, the setting, and the gentle structure that gives their creative minds the freedom to conceive, discover, and construct all kinds of artistic, imaginative creations.

At the Preschool of the Arts we focus not only on the development of the mind, but also on the development of social competence, relationship building, and conflict resolution through allowing children space as well as guidance to negotiate and regulate their behaviors. There is a strong focus on social collaboration, working in groups, where each child is an equal participant, having their thoughts and questions valued.  Children are encouraged to use language to explore and reflect on their experiences. They are listened to with respect as we believe that their questions and observations are an opportunity for us all to learn and search together. It is a collaborative process. Rather than the child asking a question and the adult offering the answers, we figure it out together. Working with the concept of respect we create an understanding of self and other - empathy and understanding of themselves as individuals with their own feelings and needs and an understand that others exist in this same way, as individuals with their own, separate, wants and needs.

Childcare Openings

May 24, 2017

Hi all! My name is Charlene Adams and I'm an in home childcare provider in North Portland. I'm located between Morgan St and Buffalo St. Currently, I have 4 full time children (ages 4 months, 7 months, a 2 year old, and a 2 and a half year old). I like to keep my group small by not going over 6 kids. I have 2 openings for ages 2 and up. If you'd like more information, you can shoot me an email at adamscharlene1965@yahoo.com OR you can give me a call at (503) 891-6838. Thanks! I hope to hear from you!
