The Child Care Improvement Project (CCIP) works with family child care providers who are committed to strengthening the quality of child care and ensuring that children receive nurturing, safe and developmentally appropriate care that helps prepare them for success in school and life. Ninety-seven percent of parents using CCIP providers report that they are extremely or very satisfied with their child care arrangement as measured by our Parent Customer Satisfaction Survey. Participating Child Care Providers attend monthly training and meetings, receive regular home visits, and work with a child care coordinator to address their professional development goals.

A Montessori Community for Children and Families
I am seeking five 2 and 3 year olds for childcare in my home beginning in October of 2009 through May of 2010. I have my diploma for primary AMI Montessori teaching (ages 3 to 6), my Masters in Education (specializing in primary Montessori), one year experience in the classroom and three years experience as a nanny. I hope to cultivate relationships with families in the area in order to start a small Montessori preschool and infant room in the Fall of 2010.
I will provide age and developmentally-appropriate Montessori works, toys and group activities, help with the potentially new experience of interacting and socializing within a community of other children, while promoting independence in each child. I like to share food preparation activities, music, reading, art, outdoor experiences and yoga. I am happy to help with potty training and experienced with food allergies. I try to run an eco-friendly house and am a fan of organic, local foods. I have plants, a silly and very cute small dog and a beautiful fish tank for children who enjoy animals. My home is conveniently located just South of Mt. Tabor & Division on Bus Route 71. The property has a fenced backyard with a garden and Clinton Park just around the corner.
I am registered with the Childcare Division of Oregon, have my first aid and CPR certification, my food handler's card and plan to make my home a Registered Family Childcare Home with the Childcare Division of Multnomah County by July. My rate is $300 a month for fifteen hour weeks, $550 for 35 hour weeks. I am asking families to commit to a minimum of fifteen hours per week. These hours can be scheduled for your convenience between 7 and 5:30 daily, Monday through Friday.
Please email me and we can set up a time to meet at your home or mine. I am happy to provide references upon request.

Hi there:
We are looking for another family with an infant (0-6 months) to share our wonderful professional nanny full-time -- 5 days a week -- in our Grant Park/Hollywood home. In other words, we are looking for a family who can split our nanny's full-time salary in half -- or at least close to half. Under the arrangement, each family is an "employer," so each is responsible for paying their share of state and federal payroll taxes.
The share can begin anytime between mid-September 2009 and the beginning of January 2010. Our nanny has been a professional nanny for over 15 years and is absolutely fantastic with infants. She has been taking care of our older son (now 2.5) as part of a nanny-share arrangement for two years. During that time, our son has developed a very close bond with his caregiver and with his nanny-share buddy (who is close in age). Our son is heading off to preschool soon, but we are now expecting our second child. Our goal is to establish a relationship with a new family with a baby close to our new baby's age, so the baby can have the same great experience our son had.
As mentioned above, we would like to host the nanny-share in our home in NE Portland. But we are willing to consider having the other family "host" some of the time if they live nearby.
If interested, please email yodersmith@comcast.net, and we will respond with more details about the arrangement
Thanks.
Julie
We are considering enrolling our child this fall and are wondering if anyone has any expereince with them. They just started their summer camps. It's a brand-new program.
Thanks!
My daughter attended Young Wonders preschool this past year and had an amazing experience. It is a sweet little school located in NE Portland. There are so many wonderful elements to the school - I will highlight a few. Just know that your child will be nurtured, his/her spirit will grow, he/she will be exposed to academics in a playful fun way and he/she will develop very sweet friendships and learn how to be a friend to others.
The teachers Chris and Robin are very kind, patient, and they do an fabulous job socializing the children. They speak articulately and maturely to the kids (which has consequently helped my child expand her vocabulary). They are lighthearted and fun and very thoughtful in the way they interact with the children. It is a small enough school that they get involved quickly in interactions going south. They help the children use their words, articulate their needs and nurture friendships.
The physical space is clean and organized, appealing to the children with sweet little corners for free play, science, reading, blocks, etc. The day includes structured time during which they sing songs and discuss recent events such as the butterflies they raised, the art project of the day, or the pizza dough they made. There is also much time for imaginative play. Young Wonders is a perfect blend of imagination, academics, free time, quiet reading, music, dramatic play, and structure. The outside area has a garden (which grows carrots, strawberries, and beans that the children plant and eat), a fun and messy sand box, and plenty of raw materials which allow the children to use their imagination - I have seen milk crates evolve into a bus, a space ship and a stage (all within 15 minutes). It is good clean fun (actually they can get happily messy there - which I love).
My five year old daughter had a lovely year, has great memories, friendships, and is very prepared for her upcoming kindergarten experience. Thank you Young Wonders!
Hi. We are looking for a nanny to care for my 12 month old son. We need someone from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm, Mon to Thu. I will actually be home at these times, but will be working in my home office and occasionally taking breaks to nurse him. He is a sweet, curious, and active baby boy - loves to crawl and explore everything. We live in an apartment complex so he gets a little restless staying indoors all the time. I'm looking for a nanny who is kind, patient, willing to play with him, read books, sing songs, take him for walks on the trails by our apartment, and take care of giving him his breakfast, lunch, and snacks. We're living in short term housing, with most of the baby toys in storage, so we're looking for an extra creative nanny that can keep our son entertained and happy. I definitely need someone for the whole month of July and if the arrangement is working well for all of us, I'm willing to extend it to something more long term. The sooner you can start, the better.
At the moment we are living in Beaverton (right by the 26, Cornell road exit) until end of September, after that, we plan to move to Portland but are still exploring schools and neighborhoods.
A little bit about our family. We just moved from Los Angeles, before that, lived in New York city, but my husband and I are originally from the Philippines. We are laid-back and friendly and are very excited about living in a new town. My name is Pia and you can contact me at pmatoto@gmail.com.
Thanks!
Hi. We're looking for a nanny to watch our 6 month old daughter in NE Portland. She's a very smiley, inquisitive infant. We'd like to find someone with prior experience (CPR certification, please) and who is also an animal lover as we have two dogs and a cat that will be a part of the experience here. We need someone M-W from 7:30 - 5:30 until Sept 1st. Our daughter absolutely loves being outside and going for walks so we'd love to find someone who also likes these things. My name is Megan and I can be reached at mmmillard@gmail.com.
My husband and I have a beautiful new little girl and we are looking for a part time nanny, probably 2 days a week. Our little one is 3.5 months old. She is playful and fun, mellow and very
sweet. We are looking for a caregiver who is respectful and kind,
energetic and creative, interested in exploring and discovery, and opening up
new experiences with her. We are looking for someone who connects well with the family, and
has that certain something that exudes trust and excitement. .
We live in NE. Contact us sedita@gmail.com or mayastrom@gmail.com
THANKS!
I know that the season seems to drift past quickly. The kid's organic garden is growing with the corn now taller than they are!
And we should all enjoy summer as much as possible. Yet, wouldn't it be so much more enjoyable knowing that you had secured your child's preschool spot for the fall?
I have two openings remaining (actually three but someone has tentatively looked at one of the spots being vacated by three graduates) which would be perfect for a sibling situation. Please take a moment to look at my site and contact me when if you would like to discuss your options or to set up an appointment.
I look forward to hearing from you and enjoy the season!

Hello all,
We are looking for someone to care for our baby (who will be 3 months old in Sept) on a steady part time basis, Tues/Thursday afternoons, about 2-6 pm. Hi - we are moving to the Hawthorne area and are looking for recommendations on daycare/pre-school for our 3 year old. Wild Lilac Preschool
New Day School

Others?

I would like to find a Waldorf inspired preschool/day care for my daughter who is almost 2.5. We live in suburban portland but will be moving to sw portland pretty soon. Hello all,
I'm looking for someone to help take care of my 3 year old daughter while my husband is out of town from July 9th through the 24th. The hours would be afternoons on M, T, W (she attends a morning camp those days) and 9 - 4 on Thursdays and/or Fridays. I can be somewhat flexible -- so if these hours don't work perfectly, we could work something out. She's a great kid, fun and friendly and she naps in the afternoons. If you are interested, please shoot me a note. Thanks. kglahn@gmail.com.

Hello and Happy Summer!
My name is Jodi and I am looking for another part time nanny position. I am currently a nanny for a wonderful 9 month old baby girl for two afternoons a week. I'm looking for a family with one to three children (any ages) who need at least 15 hours a week.
I have over ten years experience working with and taking care of children from 3 months to 14 years old. I started when I was 17 years old as a toddler dance instructor and volunteering at residential summer camps as a cabin counselor. At the age of 19, I got my first nanny job with three little girls ages 3 months, 2 and 4 years old. I provided for the little girls daily for two years and then did occasional babysitting for the next couple years including overnight weekend care.
I then moved on to teaching 5 years of Reading/Math/Science/Language Arts to middle school students with special needs and Coordinating after school programs at many of the local schools.
I am now back in school and love being a nanny! Working with children is a fun, positive, and very rewarding experience. I love to play outside and get dirty with children, cooking, doing messy arts and crafts, sing silly songs with hand motions, going to the library, parks, and the zoo, dancing, going on walks, playing dress up, building forts out of linens, playind hide and seek, and of course story time!
If I sound like a good fit for your family, please email or call me at 503-593-8258. I have excellent references upon request and I would be happy to meet with you at your convenience for an interview.

My husband and I live in NE Portland (Piedmont area) and have 9-month old boy/girl twins. I have been lucky enough to stay home with our kids full time but am ready to return to work and will need part time childcare in my home beginning in August. We are looking for someone who can work two days a week, preferably tues/wed or wed/thu, eventually increasing to three days a week.
We are an active, affectionate, vegetarian and eco-conscious family. The ideal nanny for us is professional, loving, gentle, and committed to the well-being of our children. If we could, we would stay home with the babies. We are seeking a nanny who becomes a stand-in, rather than a babysitter. Ideally we would love to find someone who has experience with twins - or at least multiple children within the same age range. We hope for childcare focused on creativity, active play, learning and nutrition. Infant/child CPR skills are desired and serious candidates will be asked for background check and referrals.
Thanks!!

Part-time working parents.... don't pay for childcare. Let's share in the care of our children for free! I am a Child Development Specialist needing care for my 3 and half month old on Mondays and Wednesdays starting in September. In exchange, I would care for you child on Tuesdays and Thursdays. All that... for FREE! As an added bonus to you, we also need care for 6 hours on Fridays and would happily pay you to care for our son on this day as well.
A little about our family:
We are a two-mom family living in SE near Mt. Tabor. We have a wonderful new son who will be three and a half months old when care begins. I would be the caregiver for you child during the swap. I have an extensive educational background in Child Development and 11 years of post baccalaureate professional experience providing care for children and families in a variety of settings and capacities. My specialty is the 2-5 age range, however I am knowledgeable and skilled at caring for children both younger and older. We consider ourselves pretty moderate on most parenting issues (responding to our child's needs while also valuing independence; enjoying a full childhood while also creating safe boundaries, etc). We would love to find another family with a similar parenting style to share in the care of our families’ children. We cloth diaper and would be interested in you continuing that practice when you had our son. We eat nutritious, home-cooked and home-baked foods. Activities near our home include exploring Mount Tabor, the Belmont library, and the Montevilla Community Center. TV is not a part of our day—engaging play and interesting activities are. We have one cat and a very gentle dog.
Let's combine our resources to provide loving, engaging, FREE childcare for our families. If this sounds interesting to you, please email. And if you need a different schedule than what I've proposed, let me know. Let's begin a conversation and see how we can help each other. I look forward to hearing from you! ~Malia maliawoessner@gmail.com

I am a childcare professional. I have 10 years experience working with all ages at a NAEYC accredited center ( Joyful Noise/Metro Kids). I have also worked for several families as a nanny. I'm creative and energetic. I believe in learning through hands on science, art, music and outdoor activities. I have excellent references and I'm CPR ( Infant/Pediatric/Adult) certified. I'm looking for part time, but I'm available full time for the summer until I go back to school in the fall. I look forward to hearing from you and would love to answer any questions you have. My email is ashleerenfrow@hotmail.com
Hi,
We have a wonderful almost-three-year-old girl. At this point, we don't need regular childcare, as my husband and I have worked out our schedules for one of us to be with our daughter at all times. We just need to find that babysitter for the occasional morning when a scheduling conflict arises or a date night here and there. We don't have family in town, so we need to find someone who can help us out when we need. Of course, we're looking for someone who is reliable, responsible and respectful. We would need multiple references and are looking to form a long term relationship.
Thank you,
Greta (gcmolitor@gmail.com)
The Earth Tortoise School is opening this fall as an intimate home based early childhood program for children 18 months to 3 years old. We are currently located in the Gateway neighborhood of NE Portland but have plans to expand into a small infant, toddler and preschool program focusing on the Montavilla/Mt. tabor community within the next year.
Our program focuses on building children's self-esteem by developing independence through practical life activities. By creating a child-sized environment where learning happens through hands-on experience and free choice, toddlers are given the opportunity to build a strong sense of self, pride in their contribution, and a love of learning. Language enrichment, gardening, music, cooking, and cultural experiences are a huge part of each day. And we believe that parents need support too. We are striving to create relationships that promote trust, closeness, and reciprocity - a close-knit community that can count on one another.
We are two Montessori trained and accredited teachers with a combined 20 years of experience working with children from infancy through preschool. And with 5 years of administrative experience, are now ready to develop our vision of what early childhood education should be.
The Earth Tortoise School offers a Monday through Friday 8am to 3:30pm school day. Tuition is $700 a month. An after school care program from 3:30 to 5:30 is available by individual agreement for $5 an hour.
Please contact us at theearthtortoiseschool@gmail.com for more information, a parent handbook, and availability. We look forward to hearing from you and working with your family.
It isn't too late to begin making childcare plans for the fall. I realize that summer is a great season (and the organic garden the children and I have is looking fantastic) but fall is right around the corner.
I have three openings beginning in September (three students are graduating from our little pre-preschool) creating a wonderful opportunity for some lucky family. I have a small select group with openings for ages 1 1/2 to four years. (Families with siblings should take special note of these rare openings.)
Securing your spot now will let you relax even more knowing that you will have set your child down the right path for learning and social development. Now is the time to set-up an interview for the fall.

Beginning September 8, 2009
Tiny Wishes is for a very small number of friends to encourage a setting much like having a Nanny. We have a very comfortable home setting with much to discover. We incorporate many different styles of learning/child care. For all friends we use an approach that involves a mutual respect between care giver and child as well as between friends and respect for our environment.
As a parent I have been influenced tremendously by Alfie Kohn’s Book, Unconditional Parenting. As a care giver I apply many of these ideas during the course of our every day. This includes setting respectful limits and the aforementioned mutual respect between all of us. At Tiny Wishes we will set limits without rewards and punishments. We will discuss the nature of every action with the child and certainly cater to the different age groups involved. If a child is a threat to another child or themselves, this will be addressed between the parent and caregiver.
Through many different methodologies, the main theme is discovery, fun, and learning. We provide an environment in which is safe, consistent, and open to explore. We incorporate indoor and outdoor play, arts and crafts, songs and dance, reading books and telling stories. We will take trips to the park, go on nature and exploration walks, garden, and take field trips as they relate to what we are learning about at the time.
We provide a mostly organic healthy menu for the children to enjoy and encourage their involvement with the planning and preparation.

I've been a full-time nanny for the last 3 years, and have been babysitting for more than 10 years. I have experience with children ages 4mo. to 7 years old. I have experience volunteering in a daycare for homeless families, tutoring pre-schoolers with Junior Kumon, and working with at-risk teenagers in Oregon Youth Conservation Core.
My educational experience includes courses in Family Studies, Child Psychology, Human Development and Teaching in International Schools. I recently finished my nursing pre-requisites and graduated from PSU. I have a Bachelor's of Science in Liberal Studies and a minor in Black Studies. I'm currently applying for nursing programs and plan on returning to school in a year.
My style is adaptive towards each child, because each child has his/her own special interests, personality and talents. I am familiar with the Love and Logic techniques, and try to utilize these methods within my childcare. I like to encourage spending as much time outdoors as possible, hone creative abilities as well as kids' imaginations, and try to laugh as much as humanly possible :)
I have an Oregon driver's license and my own vehicle If you are interested, please contact me for full resume/references... Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you!!

Hello Urban Mamas. We are considering changing daycare centers for a few different reasons. Growing Seeds North (or the upcoming new location on MLK) is very close to our home and our oldest child's school so it could be a good option for us. We'd appreciate any feedback - (the good, the bad and the ugly!) folks have had with this daycare center. Our youngest (who is 2) is very happy where she currently is but there are a few things that could use improvement. We would hate to make a move for more of the "same but different" if you know what I mean. Thanks so much for your comments.
We live in North Portland close to the University of Portland and to the Red Bike Café on Lombard. We have a wonderful nanny that we want to share part-time! Currently she watches my daughter and her friend three days a week (T, W and Th.). Both babies are 16- 18 months old. Unfortunately our little friend’s schedule is changing and will need to find someone new to play with my daughter!
Please contact Sofia at asgonzalez@hotmail.com or call 503-481-4642 for more information.
Start date as soon as mid July! Thank you!
We are a new family to PDX, settling into Mt Tabor/Belmont neighborhood. We have a fun, mature, curious 3 year old son. We want to develop a long-term relationship with a baby-sitter who would be avail for mostly evening (with occasional daytime weekend) coverage while we do date-nights, errands, etc. Must have experience and confidence with young children, enjoy active play and creative engagement, and have full responsibility for our son's safety. Prefer someone local. Hope to find someone great! Please contact Kate at katemday@gmail.com
Are you needing care for your happy, fun loving toddler? Then I am may be the provider you are looking for!
I have been doing daycare in my home since 1997 and love what I do. The kids in my care range in age from infancy to 3 years old and my home is a play land for this age group.... We have 3 indoor play rooms and a big back yard for outside time. We spend our days doing dress up, playing dollies, building with blocks, reading books, getting messy with dough & arts and crafts, listening to music, dancing, and so much more. I serve home cooked meals, and although I'm not totally organic, I do use all hormone free meats and milk. We go outside as often as we can and watch no TV. I follow a daily routine that allows for consistent naps and meal times but believe that children learn as they play and allow the kids to choose the activities we do throughout the day. I am open weekdays 8 - 5:15 and charge $35 a day. I currently have 1 full time opening but will consider part time as well.!
Please let me now if this sounds like the situation you've been looking for.
Thanks for your consideration,
Sandi

Hi there! I will have 2 openings for toddlers ages 1 to 2.5 years as of September 1st, 2009. I currently care for my daughter and her dear friend who are 2. We are looking for some playmates to join us in our fun days to come! I use a gentle, natural approach to their care and create healthy daily rhythms. My primary focus is creating trust between your family and myself . I know how difficult it is to find daycare you can feel confident about, and it is my hope to provide that for you.
I am CPR and first aid certified, and have an Oregon Food Handler’s Card. I provide organic, local meals and snacks each day. Our typical days include singing and dancing, story time, art projects, outdoor play and walks to the park (2 blocks away)free playtime, peaceful naps, potty training, no TV, and lots of hugs! We are hoping to add field trips in the fall!
Hours of operation will be 7:30-4:30 Monday, Wednesday and Friday. My rate is $120 a week.
I would love to talk with you and go into more detail. Please email me if you are interested!
Happy mothering!

Connect PDX will be organizing a fund raiser for "Friends of the Children" August 5th from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. The event will be located at Friends of the Children's location 44 NE Morris St. Portland, OR 97212. As part of the event we would like to offer childcare to the attendee's children. Friends of the Children will have a separate room for the childcare during the event. The childcare provider will not be responsible for collecting payment from the guests. They will only be responsible for the children and liability coverage. I am guessing we will have 10 - 15 children but will not know until RSVP's come back.
Questions for interested providers:
1) Since this is a fund raiser for "Friends of the Children" and we would love to promote the provider's business by listing them on the invitation and advertise during the event, are they willing to reduce or even provide free care?
2) Cost p/hour and for how many children? I think we should have them scheduled from 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm.
3) Liability and Insurance? Is this provided by them? Do we need the parents to sign any paperwork when they drop off the children?
4) If we find out there are more them expected children a week before the event, can they adjust there numbers and provide more people to care for the children?

Rising Song is a small Waldorf inspired, home based program in NE Portland opening Fall 2009. We offer a loving, creative environment for children ages 3-5 with the low teacher/child ratio of 1:6. At Rising Song teachers act as facilitators of play offering gentle, nurturing guidance. In our classroom children participate in baking, gardening, painting and handwork. Songs, stories and puppet shows provide rich material for the imagination and teach about the natural world. We celebrate each season with special events for the whole family: A festival of light in the fall, a shadow puppet show in the winter and a maypole dance in the spring.
Rising Song has two open houses scheduled in June:

Munchkin Manor is a small home based preschool in the Creston-Kenilworth neighborhood (close to Woodstock as well) which currently has openings for children 2 years and older. Our daily schedule includes circle time, music, movement, stories, outside activities and craft projects. We also have monthly themes that incorporate age appropriate content and are geared to children’s natural interests. We cover many basic preschool skills in our daily routine--including things like counting, literacy (introductory reading and writing skills), and the all-important skill of learning to be part of a community.
I am a licensed elementary teacher (taught 6th grade math and science until starting a family) and have 2 children of my own. I also have varied experience working in preschool settings (Montessori, Reggio Emilia). I am a certified family child care center which means that I have been checked with the criminal history registry, I am CPR certified, I provide healthy meals and snacks, and I meet all safety and health regulations set by the state.

I am a 32 year old college-educated writer, artist and nanny with 4+ years of childcare experience. I am seeking a full or part-time position with a family beginning in mid-June. I am CPR/first aid certified for infants, children, and adults. I practice positive discipline and use some principles of attachment parenting. I have experience with kids from 3 months to 8 years old. I enjoy spending time outdoors as much as possible, going to the park, the library, and OMSI as well as rainy day art projects. I provide a safe, nurturing environment for kids to explore their imaginations and be themselves.
I have recent experience with infants, and I am comfortable with baby-wearing, cloth-diapering, and breast fed babies. I am eco-concious and socially concious and looking for a family who is also. I ride a bike instead of driving a car, so I'm comfortable using public transportation with kids. I identify as queer and transgendered and I want to work with a family that is queer and trans-friendly.
My rates are $12/hr. for one child. I'm open to nanny share, and rates for more than one child are negotiable. Please contact Jesse at theredferngrows@gmail.com. I hope to hear from you soon!
