Childcare Wizard available for short-term and on-call basis in N and NE Portland.

April 27, 2015

Spring greetings!

I am a dynamic, nature-loving nanny working part-time with a fantastic family. I am currently looking for temporary and/or on-call work to round out my schedule. If you are looking for an experienced and dependable person to help out when your nanny gets sick, when you need a date night, or when you are transitioning between childcare, I may be your guy. Since I relocated here a year and a half ago I have worked closely with three families in the Sabin and King neighborhoods. All their babies were under one year of age when I started with them and I still provide childcare occasionally. I have stellar references and love establishing rapport with the families I work with.

My trusty bicycle, Sunny, will transport me all over North and Northeast Portland in punctual and dependable style. I live in Cully and do not own a vehicle and therefore prefer not to travel outside of N and NE Portland. I work on a sliding scale basis, starting at $14 - $17 per hour. Rates vary for shares, multiple children, etc. Ask me about it!

About me: I am a childcare wizard with over 10 years of experience. I have the most experience with little ones 3 months to 3 years of age. I have a background in teaching (pre-K - 12th grade), from language classes to special education to outdoor education. My experience in pre-K included Waldorf and Montessori modalities. I am CPR and First Aid certified (June 2014) and I am Trustline Certified (includes a background check).

About my style: I am an active, creative, and unique caregiver with a good sense of humour. Spending most of my days with little ones, I like to keep it fresh. As a career nanny, parents often ask for my advice in regards to their children's mysterious behaviour. I do not have a textbook childcare philosophy, and enjoy drawing on techniques across a range of styles. With flexibility, I like to work with the parents and children to find something that suites everyone.

I like to explore nature, establish strong attachment and trust through affection, and foster creativity and personality through art, songs, and storytelling. I am a naturalist and herbalist, so most of my outdoor adventures with littles involve relating to plant life small and large. With toddlers I like to dance, garden, cook, and have curious conversations. With younger babies my care includes lots of love and touch, baby wearing, floor exploration, singing and reading practice. I have experience working with parents to establish daily rhythms, including feeding and sleep training. I really believe in none to very little exposure of technology and sugar for children under five. I have potty training experience, and love talking to kids about poop!

I have experience with a wide range of parents, children, and care styles. I am a sensitive caregiver and enjoy diversity, and have loved working with LGBTQ and alternative families and those with unique life perspectives.

Get in touch with me if you think we could be a good fit. My email is artemisia248@gmail.com and my phone is 619.995.9262.

Warmly, Sam

Hosting an au pair is a flexible and affordable childcare solution. Might it be right for you? Some basic facts:

-Au pairs may provide up to 45 hours of flexibly scheduled childcare for $360 per week which is usually far less than the cost of a nanny.

-Au pairs are also able to do light housework associated with childcare such as dishes or getting dinner started.

-Being a host family offers a great cultural exchange experience for your family while sharing American culture with a young person from abroad. Au pairs are able to remain with their host families for a period of up to two years.

FT Nanny needed for an awesome 6mo - June 2015

Hi,

Our family is moving to Portland from San Francisco and needs a full-time nanny for our 6 month old son.  We are looking for someone responsible, reliable, active and flexible who is interested in helping us raise a great little boy.  We are extremely active, creative and curious and hoping our nanny will share the same traits.

We would like someone who plans daily activities, takes the little guy on walks in the park, to museums, to storytime and etc.  We also need someone to help us keep his life in order and are looking for a nanny who is willing to run errands, cook and do light housework related to our son - straightening up toys, our son's laundry, etc.  A Mandarin or Spanish speaker is a bonus.

While our needs will vary by month, we are looking for someone who can work M-F and will average about 40-45hrs/week.

We do not yet know where we will be living, but anticipate somewhere within a 10-15min drive of OHSU.

Please email me if you are interested.

Join us in a nannyshare! Sunnyside, SE Portland (Month of June-July)

April 07, 2015

Our family is looking for a new child to join our nanny share in Southeast Portland. (Sunnyside)

Our nanny began working with us when our daughter was three months and she will be turning one in April. The family who joined us in a nanny share is planning a summer trip and will no longer be with us so we are looking for a new family to engage in a share with through mid July.

There's a potential for the new family to extend care with the nanny beyond mid July however we will be ending our contract with her then, because we are planning a trip of our own beginning July 17. Our nanny is absolutely amazing and has tons of experience working with multiple children. We currently have care at our house in Sunnyside but are willing to consider other options as we know setting up a nanny shares requires flexibility ;-)

If any or all of this sounds interesting please email/text or call.

Creative, experienced, and joyful Nanny available in SE

April 06, 2015

My name is Katy and I am a 28 year old, college educated, creative and FUN nanny living in the Mt. Scott/Arleta neighborhood of SE. One of the mothers I  worked for is reducing her work schedule to spend more time with her  awesome kiddos, so I am searching for another lovely family to work for.

I have great references! All will attest to my honest, strong work ethic, excellent childcare skills and easygoing, warm personality. I have over 10 years of childcare, teaching, and tutoring experience.  3+ years of gymnastics and theater teaching experience has made movement and creativity the crux of the childcare I provide! I speak Spanish very proficiently and would be more than happy to incorporate the Spanish language into my care, as well. Children in my charge with enjoy nature walks, creative outdoor play, games and songs. In my spare time, I am studying herbalism. I intern 4 hours a week at the Hawthorne Herb Shoppe. I love sharing my love for plants with children. We always stop and smell the roses!

I have the most experience caring for and teaching toddlers. I would prefer to work with one or two toddlers, but am open to any age if it's the right fit :) I love caring for children of all ages. A typical day with me and a toddler would look like Story time at the library, followed by adventures at the playground, singing improvised songs about plants and animals, movement based and creative games, and consistent nap schedule. I am also experienced with potty training toddlers and am very attentive, always positive and encouraging. I am very invested in supporting and fostering children's natural creativity, curiosity and brilliance!

I am very happy to work for all varieties of families and as a queer person, I welcome and celebrate LGBTQ families. I would love to work for a family that celebrates diversity, culture and natural healthy living.

I would prefer to work for a family relatively close to my neighborhood, as I love to ride my bike to work! I have a drivers license, vehicle, and squeaky clean driving record.  I'd  prefer to drive my employer's vehicle if driving is part of my work responsibilities.  I'd be more than happy to hitch a trailer on my bicycle! I'm an excellent, highly experienced and safe city cyclist. That is more my style of transportation :)

I am ideally looking to work 3-4 full weekdays/week, but am open to other options for the right fit. I work on a sliding scale depending on the number of children and responsibilities of the position.  Feel free to contact me about rates and other details. I hope to get the opportunity to meet you and your family soon! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my posting :)

MWF Nanny Share in Sellwood

April 01, 2015

We have a wonderful nanny for our 19 month old. She is kind, caring, interactive, playful, and professional--she graduated from NW Nannies Institute so has professional training and her first aid and cpr certifications. She has been working with our family since 2012 first caring for our first baby  who has now moved on to preschool and now for our 19 month old. We are ready to add a third child to the nanny share (we had a three-child share with our older daughter and it was wonderful).

The schedule: MWF from 8am to 5pm but we are open to slightly different hours if needed. She is with another family on T/TH and they may be open to a share on their days too so let me know if you'd like to consider that option.

The location: We are open to a combination of our house and your house if they are close together on our commute to work. We are in Sellwood on 15th Ave just a few blocks south of Tacoma--walkable to Sellwood Park, the Community Center, the library, New Seasons.  It's a great place for the kids to have some activities outside of the house regularly without having to drive somewhere. We will have a separate room in the house where your child can sleep in a pack and play (with an organic mattress :) ).  We do not have the nanny drive the kids anywhere and that remains important to us but she is happy to do drop off or pick up for your little one if that is something you feel comfortable with.

The rate: $6.00/hour per family for 3 kids but please have the flexibility to occasionally pay $8.00/hour because our second family may have to leave the share for a short-time.

About us: We have our two wonderful daughters and a 60 lb dog named Meg who mostly keeps to herself. We make efforts to be green--from eating a vegan diet to using cloth diapers and natural products. My husband is a teacher and I work in renewable energy. Please get in touch if you are interested in discussing more!  You can reach me at amandamortlock[@]gmail.com

Seeking P/T Nanny or Nanny Share with Another Family in SE/Mt Tabor

March 26, 2015

Hello! We're looking for a wonderful, loving nanny for our 6-month old son. We are also open to a nanny share with another family who lives nearby (within easy walking distance).  We live in Mt. Tabor near 50th/Hawthorne. We're looking for someone 2 days a week, ~ 8 hours a day (~ 9-5), ideally Mon/Weds or Tues/Thurs but we may have some flexibility on the days (other than Fridays, when we do not need care). Care would be in our home.

We're looking for someone who is warm, bright, reliable, thoughtful, who has a gentle, tender manner, and is experienced with young babies. Ideally, we'd love someone who is also knowledgeable about the developmental stages/needs of young babies. We believe in fresh air every day, walks, lots of books!, cuddling and interactive play. We have two dogs, so our nanny will need to enjoy and be comfortable with dogs as well. We'd like the nanny to help with light housework/meal prep as time permits (our son's needs always coming first).

At some point, now or later, we'd love to find another nearby family *within easy walking distance of our house* for a nanny share. We want to simplify our lives, and minimize car trips, hence the "walkable" criteria.  Care could be split between our homes (probably alternating weeks). Ideally both families would have a baby similar in age (6 mos).  We have a laid  back parenting style, but work hard to create a loving, healthy and stimulating environment  for our son. We seek a family with similar values.

Please contact us at bmcd418@yahoo.com if you'd like to know more, thanks for your interest!  Amy and Brent

Nanny & Nanny Share Opportunity in NW PDX (Cedar Mill)

March 21, 2015

Hello!

We are looking for a both a nanny and another family interested in a nanny share opportunity in our Cedar Mill home. We have a 9-month old son, who would like a caring nanny and maybe a friend to share his days with.

For a nanny: This is a full time position, 35-45 hours per week (~8a-5p), M-F, with every other Wednesday off. We are looking for a caregiver who is reliable, mature and knowledgeable on the sleep/developmental needs of kiddos under 1 years old. We will expect a consistent schedule for our son each day, and for him to be taken outside for a walk or to play every day, rain or shine.  Most days with him are spent playing, practicing walking, going outside, and reading many, many books. As our son gets older and it becomes more appropriate, we would support getting him and the nanny involved in activities during the day. We would also like for a nanny to help us with some household duties during nap times, as appropriate. As this post indicates, we hope to find a nanny share with one additional child at some point in the future.

For a potential family: We would like to host this nanny share, and are open to sharing either part time or full time. We think another child aged 3 months-21 months would be a good fit for our son. We have a lower level that is childproofed, secure and filled with age-appropriate toys. Our son is showing much interest in children his age, and would like this nanny share to be an opportunity for more socializing and learning from peers. My husband and I have a laid back parenting style, but work hard to create a loving, healthy and stimulating environment for our son. We would probably be a good fit for another family with similar values.

Please contact me at melissa.teahen@gmail.com if you'd like to know more, thanks for your interest!

Reliable and Responsible Nanny Available

Hi, I am a nanny seeking a new family to work for. I have experience with infants, toddlers, preschoolers and beyond and am looking for a long term commitment beginning no later than mid April, but as early as March 30th.

I am patient, reliable and responsible. Activities I like to do with kids include reading, arts and crafts, playing outside (even if it means getting dirty,) going to the pool, bike rides, walks around the neighborhood, trips to OMSI, zoo, forestry center, story time etc.

I am happy to assist with meal prep, children's laundry, sleep training, making baby food, walking the dog etc.

I am college educated, and have several great references who are happy to talk with you. I am a generally happy person who is a good communicator. I am seeking a family who is happy, communicates well, and is looking for a long term (1+ yr) commitment.

I am seeking a family who needs care on Tue, Thur and/or Fridays. I am open to non-traditional schedules, so if you work evenings, or extra long days, I am happy to discuss it. I also have experience with multiples and nanny shares. I do not have a car, but get around by bus, bike and foot without any problems. I live in inner NE and am hoping to find a family nearby or easy to get to by bus and/or bike.

My rates are $14-18 depending on the number of children and related duties. I can be reached at greatpdxnanny@hotmail.com

Thanks! Sara

FT Loving, Patient, Reliable Nanny Available 3/23

Hello Portland Families!

My name is Alaina and I am 27 year old, Portland native, who's hoping to find a full time nanny position. I am available M-F and hoping to work at least 30 hours per week, 35 would be a plus but not required. I am available to start as early as March 23rd. My most current job was working at a Pre-school/Daycare called West Hills Learning Center, in Multnomah Village. I started out as the Assistant Teacher in the Pre-K classroom, when I decided to start looking for a nanny job I moved to part time as a floater, which had me working in all of the classrooms 8 months- 5 years old. West Hills was a great place to work, and I learned so much there, with all of the different ages, to teaching styles, and large number of children in each class, I really soaked up as much knowledge as I could to help me in my future child care positions. With that said, I have realized I thrive more in a smaller group setting. I like the intimacy and attention you are able to give each child. I like growing close with the families, and having the time to be able to give updates to the parents about how the day went, and what new fun things we did during the day.

In the past I have worked for the Beaverton School District as a Substitute Teacher's Assistant, I worked in mostly special ed classrooms, and children with behavioral issues, ranging for K-12, I have worked in after school art programs, and I have been a Nanny to multiple families, which I have grown to have great relationships with. Kids age ranging from 3 months-8 years old. Of course I have babysat throughout every job I have had starting at a very early age. With all my past experience I have always gone back to wanting to be a Nanny, I believe it truly is my passion to care for children, and there is no greater feeling then leaving a days work actually feeling like you have made a difference in someones life.

A little about me, and my teaching style. Like I said before, I have grown up in the Portland metro area my whole life, I love Oregon and all if has to offer. Like most Oregonians, I love the lifestyle we are able to have by living here, beautiful day hikes, weekend trips to the Oregon Coast and the Mountain, trying a new awesome restaurant each weekend, eating locally and as healthy as possible. Its very important for me to be active, and healthy, and that is definitely incorporated in when I am watching children. I like to have the kids help me cook, get them involved and show them what its like to eat from the garden, daily walks, and exploring all nature has to offer. Rain or shine, I need to go outside everyday! I very much believe a child's imagination is the most important thing to exercise and discover. Letting the child know they are loved and cared for on a daily basis, making sure they are comfortable and knowing you are there for them with all of their questions and concerns, helping them when they need help, but also letting them try new things on their own, and learning together is the most important thing I can provide as a Nanny and caregiver.

As a Nanny, I would make sure each day we would go outside, hopefully incorporate arts and crafts on a daily basis (because I love art projects as much as the kids do!) read books, prepare healthy snacks, listen and dance to music, explore new parks, and honestly just try to learn and play as much as we can, and have a great time doing it!

I have a 2002 Subaru Outback, which is a very safe and reliable car. I have had my license since I was 16, with an amazing driving record. I recently renewed my First Aid/CPR training in January, and am enrolled in the Criminal Background Check. Thank I am comfortable with pets, and don't mind walking the dog. I am comfortable with meal prep, light house keeping, and running errands. I don't smoke.

Even though I myself am not a mother yet, I can imagine trying to find the right Nanny for your family to be a very hard process. I don't blame the family for wanting to maybe have a lengthy hiring process, or wanting to do a trial run to see if you are a right fit before hiring, and to me that makes so much sense. You can't be too sure when you know this person is going to be watching your children. So with that said, I am available for contact through e-mail or phone. If you're interested I can send my Resume which gives in greater detail my childcare experience, we can chat on the phone before meeting to see if we would be a good fit for each other!

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, I am a very caring, reliable, patient, and open minded person, I look at being a Nanny as a career, and not just a job to have until I find something better. I am very excited to find the next family to work with. Thanks again, and I hope to hear from you!

Sincerely, Photo

Full Time Care Available for an Infant/Young Toddler near SE Woodstock

March 14, 2015

Are you looking for high-quality, affordable, personalized childcare in SE Portland?

Would your child thrive in a small, family-like environment rather than a crowded center?

Do you like the idea of a nanny share, but with a bit more structure and dependability (and not in your house)?

I have been providing child care for a small group of babies and toddlers in my home since November 2012, shortly after the birth of my oldest son.  Before this, I worked closely with kids of all ages for over 12 years as an environmental educator, elementary school teacher and as a nanny.  I love spending time with children!

Our group is very much like a little family; with just a few children here at one time, I am able to provide lots of individualized attention.  My oldest son is now in preschool and I will be caring for my youngest son who is 5 months old, an 8 month old boy, and a 15 month old girl.  I currently have availability for one more child to join our group full-time between the hours of 8:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday. Ideally, I would love to find a family who is looking for at least 36 hours per week of care for their child whose birthday falls between October 2013 and October 2014.  My full-time rate is $7.50 per hour.

My home is located near SE Woodstock and 60th.  Inside, we enjoy lots of free play and exploration - there are plenty of books and toys, but no TV!  We like to spend lots of time outside as well - we explore nearby parks, investigate the vegetable garden, make messes on the deck, and play in the fully fenced yard.

As a child care provider (and a parent) I value maintaining a flexible routine to our days - I find that young children benefit from knowing the general flow of the day and what is coming next.  I believe that infants and toddlers thrive with consistent and adequate rest, so age-appropriate naps are prioritized.  I even have separate sleeping areas for each child!  I am open to supporting a variety of parenting styles and values and I have lots of experience with cloth diapering, bottle feeding, baby wearing, special diets, baby-led weaning, baby sign language, and potty learning.  I am trained in first aid and CPR and have a food handler's license.  While I don't adhere to a single parenting or educational methodology, I am familiar with and borrow ideas from the RIE, Attachment Parenting, Waldorf and Montessori philosophies.

If it sounds like my care might be a good fit for your family, please contact me with questions or for more information!

March 06, 2015

Hey there Urban Mamas!

Are you looking for a mature, down to earth, responsible, punctual, well rounded and highly experienced childcare provider? Look no further! :)

My name is Katy and I am a 28 year old, college educated, creative and FUN nanny living in the Mt. Scott/Arleta neighborhood of SE. One of the mothers I currently work for is reducing her work schedule to spend more time with her  awesome kiddos, so I am searching for another lovely family to work for. I am available as early as March 23rd. I am open to waiting until as late as April 1st for the right fit.

I have great references! All will contest to my honest, strong work ethic, excellent childcare skills and easygoing, warm personality.

I am ideally looking to work 3-4 full weekdays/week. I work on a sliding scale depending on the number of children and responsibilities of the position.  Feel free to contact me about rates and other details. Part-time nanny needed for infant in NoPo on Tues/Thurs

Hi!

We are looking for a part-time nanny or nanny share for our son, Julien, starting at the end of this month.  He will be 12 weeks old at that time.  He is a very sweet and curious little boy already and loves staring at faces, smiling, cooing and reaching for his sensory toys.  He's not a big fan of tummy time but we are working on that.

We live in North Portland and need someone on Tuesdays from 12 - 6pm and on Thursdays from 10 - 6pm.  I would prefer in-home childcare at my home but I am open to other arrangements, especially if doing a nanny share.

I am a first time mom and want to find someone who is experienced with infants and who can give Julien all the love and attention a young baby like him needs.  Please email with any questions you may have along with your qualifications and references.  I look forward to hearing from you! nicolewarren@gmail.com
