After a successful Activista Coffee Hour, we're ready to move ahead with more conversation, planning and, of course, incredibly effective action. Over Stumptown coffee on July 19th, we hatched some good ideas about what we Activistas can accomplish (a lot!) and how best to do it. We realized that, as we suspected, there are many other urban Mamas (and probably Papas) out there who want to particpate in their communities and take a more active role in shaping the public policies that affect families in Portland and beyond. We hope that you'll join us to meet other active-minded Mamas and Papas to share ideas and resources so we're ready to act when the time comes.
Calling all urban Papas: We just know that there are urban Papas out there who are also interested in seeing more family-friendly policies in place. Plus, to get a real understanding of the issues so we can support policies that work for all family members, we need the Papa perspective. We hope you'll bring yours.
A bit about scheduling: This gathering is on a weeknight evening to accommodate those whose schedules don't allow for Thursday morning coffees downtown. We plan to host a future meeting on a Saturday morning, as well (with coffee and a kids play area, natch), and perhaps rotate days and locations going forward. We know how hard it is to get a group of busy urban Mamas and Papas in one place at the same time to talk for more than five uninterrupted minutes!! But it's worth it.

I really wish I could come (location and time are terrific for me), but I'll be out of town that week. I can't wait to hear what you all come up with!

I'll be there! And with me I'll have that letter to sign/share on the Family and Workplace Balancing Act of 2007.

We had a good conversation on the 21st at Milagros - thanks to Tony for sharing their great space. My kids had a ball. We met some new people, connected with other activists, got some great feedback on the forum, and signed our letters to Rep. Blumenauer to support the Workplace and family Balancing Act. So all in all, a success and a great 2nd gathering. Hope others can make it next time. Till then, stay in touch here and don't forget to e-mail us with ideas and questions for posts.
